Victorian government callously out of date in respect for animals and public

Environment minister Sherryl Garbutt (Ms No) is determined to place the interests of shooters ahead of public safety. Ms No has done this by recommending:

No animal welfare community group representation on the Hunting Advisory Committee
No environmental community group representation on this crucial committee
No forest bordering group representation on the crucial committee despite the well-known problems associated with hunters
No cessation of live bird shooting at game ranches
No cessation of duck shooting
No cessation of deer shooting or determined response to decrease the vast increase in deer hunters (300% in about 7 years)
No cessation of the ugly practice of using hounds in the hunting of deer
No rigorously developed course for hunters (Pay 40 bucks and you can go animal killing)
No policy to insist on improvements to the Firearms Licence despite the fact that the present safety course is known to be a farce (1499 out of 1500 pass)
. No plan to reduce the 40% gun promotion in the annual ‘Hunters Guide’ or include details of the last few years hunting tragedies.

This is an abysmal record.

Tragically, no Victorian government in the last 20 years has been under the thumb of the gun lobby as much as the present Bracks government.
